Setup git on Ubuntu 19.04

Installation:

tcoil@tcoil-VirtualBox:~$ sudo apt-get update
tcoil@tcoil-VirtualBox:~$ sudo apt-get install git

Basic setup:

Check if git has been installed successfully

tcoil@tcoil-VirtualBox:~$ git --version
git version 2.20.1
coil@coil-VirtualBox:~$ 

Perform basic configuration, setup user name and associated email

tcoil@tcoil-VirtualBox:~$ git config --global user.name "tcoil"
tcoil@tcoil-VirtualBox:~$ git config --global user.email "michal.vasulka@gmail.com"
tcoil@tcoil-VirtualBox:~$ git config --list
user.name=tcoil
user.email=michal.vasulka@gmail.com

We can check in the git config file in your home directory

tcoil@tcoil-VirtualBox:~$ cat ~/.gitconfig
[user]
     name = tcoil
     email = michal.vasulka@gmail.com
tcoil@tcoil-VirtualBox:~$
